"Am I doing the right things?"

Have you ever asked yourself the question, "Am I doing the right things?" Well I know I do ALL the time! Having teenage kids can sometimes be a trial and especially when you feel like you are always the "mean" or "bad" parent. We have had to deal with this a lot lately because it seems like there are so many parents now that just don't care what their kids are doing or if they even come home at night!! I know it may sound crazy to a lot of us but I deal with it ALL the time because we will not let our kids do the same things. Our kids get teased that their "mommy" is calling checking on them all the time, or they have to actually come home at night and not just get to stay wherever, they might even have to be home at 10:30!!! Imagine that! Well I received this email today that I would like to share and it just reassured me that I am doing the things that I should be and hopefully it will help my kids even though they may not think so!!

Mean Moms
Someday when my children are old enough
to
understand the logic that motivates a
parent, I will tell them, as my Mean ole Mom
told me:
I loved you enough....
to ask where you were going, with whom,
and what time you would be home.
I loved you enough to be silent and let you
discover that your new best friend was a
creep.
I loved you enough to stand over you for two
hours while you cleaned your room, a job that
should have taken 15 minutes.
I loved you enough to let you see anger,
disappointment, and tears in my eyes.
Children must learn that their parents aren't
perfect.
I loved you enough to let you assume the
responsibility for your actions even when
the
penalties were so harsh they almost broke
my heart.
But most of all, I loved you enough...to
say
NO when I knew you would hate me for it.
Those were the most difficult battles of all.
I'm
glad I won them, because in the end you
won, too.
And someday when your children are old
enough to understand the logic that motivates
parents, you will tell them.
Was your mom mean? I know mine was...
We had the meanest mother in the whole
world!
Mother insisted on knowing where we were
at all
times. You'd think we were convicts in a
prison. She
had to know who our friends were, and
what we were
doing with them. She insisted that if we
said we
would be gone for a hour, we would be
gone for an hour or less.
We were ashamed to admit it, but she had
the nerve
to break the Child Labor Laws by making
us work. We had to wash the dishes, make
the beds, learn to
cook, vacuum the floor, do laundry, empty
the trash
and all sorts of cruel jobs. I think she
would lie
awake at night thinking of more things for
us to do.
She always insisted on us telling the truth,
the
whole truth, and nothing but the truth. By
the time
we were teenagers, she could read our minds
and had eyes in the back of her head. Then, life was
really tough!
Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk
the horn
when they drove up. They had to come up to
the door
so she could meet them. While everyone else
could
date when they were 12 or 13, we had to
wait until we were 16.
Because of our mother we missed out on
lots of
things other kids experienced. None of us
have ever
been caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's
property or ever arrested for any crime. It
was all her fault.
Now that we have left home, we are all
educated,
honest adults. We are doing our best to be
mean
parents just like Mom was.
I think that is what's wrong with the world
today.
It just doesn't have enough Mean Moms!!

So.....because I love my kids I will keep being the "mean" or "bad" mom!! :o)

Listening to promptings

This morning I am reflecting on things that happened yesterday. Brandon was supposed to meet a friend at 7:00am to work on a truck for him. Well he didn't show so Brandon just went ahead and went to work. After some time passed he kept having a strong feeling that he needed to go over to his house. Well he listened and left work. When he got there his truck was in the driveway but he got no answer. So again he felt like something was wrong and he needed to get inside. (Me, I would have just left) He got inside and found his friend in the bathroom passed out and bleeding all over from a hitting his head. He was rushed to the hospital and after many test were done we have found out that he has a brain tumor. Brandon stayed at the hospital all day with him and then went with him to Phoenix when he was transferred to another hospital that will be able to help him more with his condition. He is supposed to have surgery to have it removed and we are very worried about the outcome. But who knows what would have happened it Brandon had not followed the feelings and promptings he was having. I know that sometimes I second guess myself when I feel promptings, and I need to remember that the spirit guiding us is a gift. I'm so grateful that Brandon knew what he needed to do and never second guessed himself.

Friends........

A true friend is one who walks in, when the rest of the world walks out.
Author unknown
This is my friend Melissa. We have been friends since we were little girls. We met when our moms became friends and we were in the same ward together. We enjoy doing a lot of the same things, so we do a lot of projects together. It makes it more fun that way! I always know that I can count on her if I ever need anything or if I need to vent to someone. :)

Every Wednesday we meet for lunch. We always plan our schedules around it and unless there is something that totally cannot be changed we are always there. Our favorite place to eat is El Charro, which is a little mexican restaurant in downtown Mesa that has been there forever.

We look forward to being able to visit and eat good food! What more could you ask for.....=)

Preston goes to homecoming

Last night was Desert Ridge High School's
homecoming dance. Preston's date was his
girlfriend, Hannah.
This is the group of kids that they went with.
They all went to dinner at the Macaroni Grill
on Stapley & Baseline before the dance.

Preston looked so handsome! He wore a black shirt and black pants with a gold tie to match Hannah's dress. He said they had a really fun time.

Man, kids grow up so fast! :(

Tagged!!

[tag[1].jpg]
Thanks to my friend Loree! Ok here it goes.....let me see what 7 things I can think of!
1. I hate hamburgers! Haven't ate a hamburger since I was a little kid and my mom gave them to me. Don't eat ANYTHING with hamburger in it, spaghetti, chili, sloppy joe's, tacos, casseroles, yeah, yeah, you get the picture!
2. I go out to lunch everyday during the week and sometimes on Saturdays. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, going out to lunch! I meet either my husband or friends. Call me sometime :)
3. I sleep with my TV on all night long. I love to watch TRU tv (formally called court tv). I love forensics and investigation shows. Thankfully it doesn't bother my husband that the tv is on, he can sleep through anything!
4. I am a ice fanatic! I eat cups and cups of Sonic ice all day long!! I know it sounds weird but I actually crave it. I used to go to the gas station or Sonic like 5 times a day to get a drink so I could eat all the ice out of it, but now that sonic sells bags of ice I just go and buy bags of it!
5. I was not born in the United States. I was born in Panama. Like as in the Panama Canal. I keep saying that one day I'm going to take a trip there to see what it is like since I was a baby when we left there and I don't remember a thing about it. Of course except what my mom tells me!
6. I LOVE and I mean LOVE, Disneyland!! Whenever I plan a trip to go there I always tell my husband that the kids are only young for so long and we need to go. His response is always, yeah right, I think you love it more than the kids do! He's probably right :)
7. Ok finally, last one. I like to read. I like to go outside, read a book, and eat ice. I sit on my porch because I HATE being cold and I like the warmth outside. I finally had to start going to the library to check out books because it was getting too expensive buying books all the time plus my bookcases are out of room. So the library works out good!
Yeah! I'm done!! I choose to tag....Tara, Erica, Monica, Mandy, Melissa, Ginger, & Colette
Have Fun!! :)

Bunko Pajama Party!

I play in a bunko group with 12 women. So once a year it is your turn to host bunko at your house. I decided I wanted to have a PJ party and have everyone come in their pajamas. I made dinner and had everyone bring a kitchen gift to exchange. So we ate, played, laughed, and even all got to go home with a gift!
As you can see, we had lots of fun!! :)

Mother/Daughter Activity

Last night was the mother/daughter activity that I have been working on like crazy! Everything turned out great!! I think everyone had a really nice time. I received a lot of nice compliments and was told by many of what a fun evening they had. This was the table with most of the leaders wedding pictures. The girls had a great time laughing and looking at all of us many years ago when we got married.

This is Loree who was our guest speaker last night. She did a amazing job!! The things she told the girls were just what they needed to hear and then with her personality added in it was a great talk!! I'm so grateful to her for all her preparation and for spending her evening with us.

This is Janae who made this beautiful wedding cake for us. It was so yummy!

Some pictures of the girls and their moms putting together their wedding time capsules!

Aren't they cute!! :)
